Joshua R. Bressler
For over twenty years, Joshua R. Bressler has worked with other attorneys and senior management to develop and protect his clients' intellectual property rights — and to convert intellectual property into revenue streams. He is an Internet-age pioneer in the field, having spearheaded the early efforts of firms such as Sullivan and Cromwell LLP and Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP to offer their clients services in this space. He also served as general counsel to an Internet social networking company with a vast membership and intellectual property and technology portfolios.
Clients who work with Josh typically appreciate his encyclopedic understanding of IP principles and their implications, his ability to map them to overall legal and business goals, and his deft discretion in interacting with team members, counterparts and adversaries. Josh works collaboratively, actively managing expectations at all levels and providing extraordinary value for his clients' financial investment in legal services.
Josh is admitted to the New York State bar. He is also admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Eastern and Northern Districts of New York. Mr. Bressler holds a juris doctorate (J.D.), cum laude, from New York University School of Law and a bachelor's degree (B.S.E.), cum laude, in electrical engineering and biomedical engineering from Duke University. He is a member of the First Amendment Lawyers Association, and also the New York State Bar Association, where he is past co-chair of the Rights of Privacy, Publicity and the Media Committee of its Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Section.
Josh and his wife live in Westchester County, New York with their two young children and three dogs. On those rare occasions on which he is not working or enjoying his family, Josh might be motorcycling, playing football in Central Park, or putting his engineering education to work by troubleshooting and rehabilitating stubborn electronic and mechanical devices.
creative, tenacious, vibrant, savvy.
You know the revenue and market share to be won from successful execution of a better business model or method. You know the importance of protecting that edge against competition once exposed to the marketplace. The global economy and instantaneous access to information have only increased innovators' stakes and risks.
Where legal issues are involved, superior outcomes often hinge on nuance. Add intellectual property to the equation and subtle distinctions become even finer, sometimes levering extraordinary impact on results. To best achieve its clients' objectives, an effective IP practice must glide effortlessly from a panoramic understanding of clients' strategic drivers and competitive environment to a molecular analysis of facts and detail.
Of course, sharp command of the law and fluent familiarity with operative facts are essential to an IP attorney's superior execution and client counseling, whether the client is a practicing attorney, a sophisticated business or an entrepreneur. Likewise, the IP attorney must recognize touch points across matters quickly to leverage them strategically, and to communicate options and consequences to clients efficiently in comprehensible and actionable terms. This is what sets us apart: we do this routinely for every one of our clients.
Bressler Law PLLC works with its clients on IP issues spanning the transactional, strategic and adversarial. We offer services that help clients build and protect their intellectual production and brands, manage large-scale IP portfolios, enforce IP rights and resolve IP disputes. Indeed, the firm excels at scoping and resolving complex matters. When the matter is too important — or too intricate — to entrust to just anyone, Bressler Law PLLC often is the IP counsel of choice for sophisticated businesses and practicing attorneys.
Our clients appreciate something beyond our resourcefulness and vigorous advocacy: our commitment to briefing clients and including them in a matter's strategic planning. We never forget that our clients are the principals and the ultimate arbiters of executable plans and business risk — but we also know that clients often want and respect our views distilled from decades of experience, and we readily share those views when appropriate.
We view every engagement as a long-term business relationship and as our own investment in a client's business. We know our clients' industries and business models. We know that our excellent results protect and enhance our clients' profit and loss statements, market share and standing among their peers and the consuming public. We fight and persevere for stellar client outcomes. We fully expect to be the IP law firm called to our clients' sides when their transactions, projects and disputes warrant assistance.
